PDP vs APC: Tinubu Wins At Tribunal (Read Details)

The National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Ikeja has affirmed the election of Senator Oluremi Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Lagos Central senatorial constituency.

The three-man tribunal led by Justice Kunaza Hamidu, in a seven-hour judgment, held that the petition filed by Chief Adesunbo Onitiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the election of Senator Oluremi Tinubu failed as it did not establish any prima facie case against her.

“The petition lacked merit and is hereby dismissed. The declaration of Senator Oluremi Tinubu by INEC as the winner of February 23 National Assembly election is hereby affirmed”, the tribunal declared.

The tribunal held that the petitioner failed to substantiate and give particulars of all allegations raised against the election of Senator Tinubu.

The tribunal declared that the National Assembly elections from which Senator Tinubu emerged winner was held following the electoral act and other relevant laws.

Chief Onitiri had dragged Senator Tinubu and INEC before the Tribunal, challenging the result of the Lagos Central Senatorial District election over alleged irregularities.

The APC and Independent National Election Commission (INEC) are second and third respondents respectively.

Chief Onitiri had alleged that INEC wrongly declared Senator Tinubu as the winner of the polls with 131,725 votes, while he was said to have scored 89,107 votes

He claimed that the INEC ought to have declared him (Onitiri), the winner of the election instead of Tinubu, claiming that he scored the highest lawful votes cast at the election.

In a petition filed before the tribunal on his behalf by his counsel, Onome Akpeneye, the PDP Senatorial Candidate for Lagos Central in the February 23 elections alleged that the results declared by the INEC was fraught with vote-buying, violence, over-voting, inducement of voters with monetary and material gains, campaigning and lobbying voters, on the day of election.

Other irregularities he stated in his petition, include non-accreditation and/or improper accreditation of voters by INEC officials, intimidation and arrest of his supporters and poll agents, as well as the instigation of electoral violence by the agents of the first respondent.

Chief Onitiri claimed that apart from the listed irregularities, there were irreconcilable entries in the result declared and the number of votes recorded in favour of Senator Tinubu by INEC in forms EC8A and EC8B respectively.

He also alleged non-use of accredited card readers in line with the 3rd respondent’s (INEC’s) guidelines and regulations for the conduct of the election.

“The final result was signed only by the agent of APC and the Senatorial INEC Returning officer in an unknown location,” he added.

But in their defense, Senator Tinubu, APC and INEC through their counsels, Ezekiel Ashade and Busayo Onabanjo respectively, debunked all the allegations contained in the petition describing them as unfounded fabrications.

They insisted that Tinubu scored the highest lawful votes cast at the election and urged the tribunal to dismiss Onitiri’s petition with substantial costs.

During the trial, Ashade filed two applications on behalf of Senator Tinubu and APC while Onabanjo filed one application for INEC in which they objected to certain paragraphs in the petition and urged the tribunal to strike them out as they were vague and lack substance.

The tribunal granted the prayer of the respondents and struck out the ‘offensive’ paragraph.

“In Ukraine, very progressive and talented youth. So, I think that the Ukrainian team has a great chance of success in the near future,” Rohr said.

The German tactician added:-

“The match with this team is a challenge for us. Not so long ago, I was the head coach of the Niger team, and we met with the Ukrainian team in Kiev.

A Nigerian man known as Chief Justice Igwe on Facebook has decided to return to Nigeria after his sojourn in South Africa.

Igwe was one of the supporters of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar who vied for the post of the president of Nigeria with incumbent leader, President Muhammadu Buhari.

As the results of the presidential election started trickling in the month of February this year, and it appeared that Atiku was trailing Buhari, Mr. Igwe fled the country for better opportunities abroad. He had no faith in Buhari, so he saw no reason why he should remain in the country.

The young man who hails from the South-eastern part of Nigeria left for South Africa.

“This elect results not interesting….finding my way off Nigeria now,” he posted on his Facebook account on the 26th of February, 2019.

Events didn’t go as planned in South Africa due to the crises of xenophobia leading to vicious attacks on foreigners as well as their properties by locals.

Mr. Igwe has now boarded a free flight heading back to Nigeria courtesy of Air Peace, after the Buhari administration facilitated the repatriation of hundreds of Nigerians living in South Africa as they fear for their lives.

Igwe will be returning to Nigeria do deal with the Buhari-managed ailing economy which he fled from in the first place.

Above is a screenshot of his Facebook post while leaving Nigeria and a recent one he made announcing his imment return home.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, confirmed, on Monday, that Nigeria was built on a false foundation.

He regretted the fact that the cracks on Nigeria’s foundation had continued to widen due to unpatriotic activities fuelled by religious divide, ethnic consideration, nepotism and most recently, fake news on social media.

He said that though there is hope for a better and greater Nigeria, if only the citizens would own, love, cherish Nigeria and most importantly, discouraged anything that would damage its reputation in the comity of nations.

Adesina spoke at a youth engagement programme, Naija Youth Talk, with the theme “the Nigeria we want,” jointly organised by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Department for International Development (DFID) to mark the 2019 World Literacy Day, in Abuja.

The programme was meant to provide a platform for youths to discuss issues of education, human and national development, also build their capacities and confidence to achieve their dreams and aspirations.
Adesina in his remark said: “Nigeria, obviously, has many fault lines. Few among the faults are religion, ethnicity, language, nepotism and the most recent one is fake news which is being used to undermine Nigeria, cause bitterness, malice and incite Nigerians against each other.”

He said, for instance, the recent xenophobic videos trending online were not authentic. They were deliberately exhumed by some unpatriotic people and were being shared to incite Nigerians against themselves.

He added: “We must love our country and our country must reciprocate by loving us in return. Nigeria in its past and maybe present state maybe not be loveable but we must see reasons to profess our love to it with our heart.”

The UNICEF Country Representative, Peter Hawkins, who was represented by UNICEF Chief of Education, Euphrates Efose, exposed to participants enormous opportunities in today’s world and encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunities to transform themselves, their environment and the world.

She used different verifiable stories and personal experiences to justify to the youths that there were plenty opportunities of wealth amidst murmuring and complains of lack of opportunity.

She reaffirmed the commitment of UNICEF to any cause that would herald significant transformation in health, education and total life package of children in Nigeria and the world in general.

GUESS WHO? Man United Ex Defender Vidic Reveals The Hardest Striker He Has Ever Faced

Nemanja Vidic has revealed that Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, was the toughest opponent he faced while at Manchester United.

The Serbian also admitted a 4-1 defeat to City, was his worst game for the Red Devils.

Vidic enjoyed a glittering career at Old Trafford after joining from Spartak Moscow in 2006, making a total of 300 appearances for the club where he lifted five Premier League titles, three League Cups and a Champions League trophy.

But the 37-year-old has spoken of his displeasure in coming up against Aguero in September 2013.

Speaking to The Athletic, Vidic said:

“I played against Aguero when they beat us 4-1 in the Moyes season.

“He (Aguero) looks like he’s not interested in football on the pitch. He doesn’t look like a guy who will run 10 metres and then — bang — he makes the sprint.

“I’m convinced that Aguero was born as a defender. He knows where the ball will come and where he can attack. But in the box, he has a low centre of gravity, which helps him change direction quickly — especially against the big English defenders.

“That was my worst game for United. I know I’m supposed to choose those two final defeats to and they were horrible to lose. That one in Rome, and Wembley was even tougher.”

“I Didn’t Demand N10m Compensation From COZA Pastor”– Busola Dakolo Clarifies

$

0

Busola Dakolo on Monday said she did not make any monetary claim for damages or compensation in the suit filed by her at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The socialite had sued the Founder of Commowealth of Zion Assembly, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, at the FCT High Court following emotional distress she allegedly suffered after an alleged sexual assault by Fatoyinbo when she was 17.

Counsel to Dakolo and public interest lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, made the clarification in a statement obtained by journalists in Abuja.

According to him, the N10m quoted by the media is the cost of the action carried out by her lawyers, to wit, litigation fee.

He said, “Following the misinformation being circulated in print and social media on the pending suit filed by our client, it has become imperative to address and clarify the true state of affairs.

“The Nigeria Police Force is still investigating the allegation of rape made by our client against the person of Biodun Fatoyinbo.

“In furtherance of the Police investigation, the suspect (Biodun Fatoyinbo) was confronted by the complainant (our client) on September 5, 2019 at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Area 10, Abuja, during an investigation conference presided over by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mike Ogbizi.

“The Police therefore has not taken anyone to court.

“However, our client, in furtherance of her civil rights, and in line with constitutional provisions, filed a civil suit against Biodun Fatoyinbo on September 6, 2019.

“The civil suit is independent of the criminal allegations and/or investigation of the Police.

“The suit has been the subject of several news headlines, albeit with a lot of misleading information. This missive is aimed at clarifying the misinformation and setting the records straight.

“First, our client filed the civil suit against Biodun Fatoyinbo on September 6, 2019 at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and not the Federal High Court, as widely reported.

“As at the time of filing the suit, the same was yet to be assigned to a judge for hearing.

“Secondly, the court did not issue any summons on our client and the fourteen (14) days given to the defendant (Biodun Fatoyinbo), within which to enter appearance to the writ of summons commences from the date of personal service of said suit on the person of Biodun Fatoyinbo and this certainly will be after the matter has been assigned to a judge.

“Thirdly, our client has not sought any monetary damages and/or compensation against Biodun Fatoyinbo in her reliefs.

“This is because our client’s reason for filing the civil suit against Biodun Fatoyinbo is, inter alia, for the court to make pronouncements on her rights as well as Biodun’s liabilities and also, to help other victims of sexual, physical and emotional abuse gain the courage to confront their abusers, no matter how highly placed they may be.

“Importantly, the N10m quoted by the media is the cost of the action carried out by her lawyers, to wit, litigation fee.

“Finally, we would like to state that it is against the ethics of the legal profession to make statements on the substance of the matter that is still pending in court.

“In view of this, we cannot make statements on other important issues surrounding the action.”

Arsenal could face Watford without two midfielders, who started the 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

Both Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira left the pitch early for Switzerland and Uruguay respectively.

Xhaka limped off in the latter stages of Switzerland’s 4-0 Euro 2020 qualifying victory over Gibraltar on Sunday night with an Achilles problem.

The midfielder later confirmed that the issue was one he has been suffering from for a number of weeks.

“I’ve been suffering from Achilles tendon pain for a few weeks now. I felt it during the game.

“It hurts now, but it should be okay otherwise,” he told reporters.

Torreira was taken off shortly before half-time, in Uruguay’s 2-1 friendly victory over Costa Rica in San Jose on Saturday night.

The former Sampdoria player asked to be removed from the game shortly before the break and was replaced by Nahitan Nandez.

Do You Agree? Buhari Administration Has Failed In Education – ASUU

Nigeria’s Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Monday, disclosed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has failed in repositioning the education sector of the country.

Speaking at a press briefing after the union’s national executive council meeting in Federal University of Agriculture, FUNAAB, Abeokuta, the ASUU’s National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, called on the President to declare a state of emergency on the country’s education system.

According to Mr Ogunyemi, the present administration has only succeeded in paying lip services to challenges faced in Nigeria’s education sector.

He added that the challenges of insecurity faced by the country would be on the increase if the federal government fails to fix the education sector.

“This government promised us to change and our belief is that change should start with education.

“We are not even saying it alone, the minister of education who has come back for a second term also said it in 2017 that there was a need for a declaration of a state of emergency on that sector,” Mr Ogunyemi noted.

He further stated that every meaningful change that must occur with Nigeria must begin with the education sector.

Recall that the union had faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration’s commitment to Nigeria’s education sector.

It also accused the president and the APC of treating education policies in a political manner.

Court Orders Final Forfeiture Of Former Minister Diezani’s $40M Jewelleries

Nigeria’s Former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Allison-Madueke will forfeit her $40m worth of pieces of jewellery to the Nigerian government, a Federal High Court in Lagos ruled on Tuesday.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo ruled that the Maduake had failed to show cause why the jewelleries should not be forfeited after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had filed that jewelleries were reasonably suspected to have being acquired with proceeds of unlawful activities of the former Minister.

The expensive items include wristwatches, necklaces, bracelets, bangles, earrings, a customized gold phone, EFCC’s counsel Rotimi Oyedepo disclosed.

An investigator with the Commission, Rufai Zaki, in an affidavit put before the court insisted that the jewelleries were beyond the former Minister’s “known and provable lawful income.”

She started acquiring the jewellery in 2012, two years after she was appointed minister, EFCC said in its findings.

The investigator also said that the EFCC was in possession of the details of the bank account through which Madueke received her salary as a minister.

“The respondent did not utilise her salary or any part of her legitimate income to acquire the assets sought to be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria,”

Zaki said.

He said a “damning intelligence report” received by the Commission led to the search of former minister’s house at No. 10 Fredrick Chiluba Close, Asokoro, Abuja.

Maduake had challenged the seizure of the pieces of jewellery from her premises by the anti-graft agency claiming that EFCC violated her fundamental “right to own property and to appropriate them at her discretion,” under sections 43 and 44 of the constitution.

In an affidavit filed on her behalf by her counsel, Prof Awa Kalu (SAN), Diezani, also accused the anti-graft agency of entering her apartment illegally and taking the items without any court order.

EFCC on July 5, 2019, secured an order of the court to temporarily forfeit the expensive jewelries to the Federal Government.

According to a report by TheCable, the two children of Levi Onyeador, bishop of Prayers Palace Ministries, Kakuri, Kaduna, have regained freedom after 34 days in captivity.

The two persons who were captured when they took initial ransom to the captors of the bishop’s children have also been set free.

A source close to the family of the bishop said the children – Fumilayo, aged 19 and Eric, aged 9 – were released on Sunday evening, alongside the two others, after the payment of yet another ransom.

Fumilayo and Eric were abducted from their residence in Kakau village along the Kaduna-Abuja road in the night of August 4, 2019.

The source said their release was a big relief for the family who had been emotionally traumatised since they were abducted.

“You know, about two weeks after the children were abducted, we raised the money the kidnappers were demanding for as ransom after negotiations,” he said.

“Unfortunately the two people we sent to deliver the ransom were also abducted after delivering the money to bandits.

“They started demanding another ransom which we paid before they were released. We glorify God for their safe return, the situation was traumatising, we thank God for answering our prayers.

“We pray that the authorities will find lasting solution to the menace of kidnapping in Kaduna state and other parts of the country.”

Joseph Hayab, chairman, Kaduna chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who confirmed the release of their release, called for ”continuous prayers against the evil that has befallen the country”.

“Bishop Levi Onyeador children and two others who went to pay ransom were released on Sunday evening. You can imagine the physical and psychological trauma they may have been subjected to while in captivity!” he said.

“This is sad, we will continue to pray against the evil that has befallen our country. We will also continue to ask government to take urgent steps to address the spades of criminality kidnapping and banditry across the country, especially the wave of kidnappings in Kaduna state.”

Meanwhile, the Kaduna chapter of the Offa Descendants Union (ODU) has raised the alarm over the abduction of six of its members.

In a statement on Monday in Kaduna, Maruf Ajenifuja, public relations officer of ODU, said the victims were traveling from Offa, Kwara state, to Kaduna when gunmen attacked them around Rejana village on the Abuja-Kaduna express way, adding that the union was making efforts to secure the release of the victims.

Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong has predicted a tough game for Gernot Rohr’s men when they face the Yellow-Blue of Ukraine in an international friendly game at the Dnipro Arena tonight.

According to the Udinese star, the friendly match will be difficult for the 2019 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, bronze winners because of the absence of experienced players in the Super Eagles squad.

John Obi Mikel and Odion Ighalo have both retired from the Super Eagles, while the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa, Henry Onyekuru, Tyronne Ebuehi and Kenneth Omeruo will all miss today’s clash.

“First of all, I would like to thank Ukraine for a very warm welcome. As for the upcoming match, it will be difficult for us, because now there are not many experienced players in our squad,” Ekong was quoted by Soccernet as telling reporters during a pre-match press briefing.

”Although, on the other hand, young players are always eager to play for the national team.”

He added:

“The whole team watched the match between Ukraine and Lithuania, and I must say that the game of the Ukrainian national team really impressed us.

“In addition, the fact that in the FIFA ranking our opponent holds a rather high position also speaks volumes. The match against Ukraine is a challenge for us, for which we are ready.”

The kick-off time for the match is 7:30pm.
