Popular Nigerian relationship expert, Joro Olumofin, has stirred reactions on social media after revealing the cost of dating in the country.

The well-known psychologist shared a breakdown of expenses for a typical date, including movie tickets, food, and other items, which he estimated at 140,000 Naira.

Joro suggested that some women might expect up to four dates before agreeing to a relationship, potentially bringing the total cost to around 400,000 Naira.

He noted that these high costs might be why some Nigerian men are becoming reluctant to go on dates.

The relationship coach mentioned that some women are high maintenance and would want to purchase items during the date that their partners cannot necessarily afford.

Gareth Southgate has said that guiding England to a first major tournament final on foreign soil is the best achievement of his coaching career.

Substitute Ollie Watkins fired in a stunning 90th-minute winner as England came from behind to beat Netherlands 2-1 in Dortmund and set up a meeting with Spain in the European Championship final in Berlin on Sunday.

Xavi Simons had earlier given Netherlands a seventh-minute lead with a superb long-range strike before Harry Kane equalized after 18 minutes with a spot-kick awarded on VAR review following Denzel Dumfries’ challenge on the England captain.

Southgate, who took charge of England in 2016, has now steered them to a quarterfinal, a semifinal, and two finals in his four tournaments at the helm.

England have never before reached a major final on foreign soil, having lost the last Euros final at Wembley on penalties to Italy. Their only tournament success came in lifting the World Cup in 1966, again in London.

Asked where he placed Wednesday’s achievement in his eight-year tenure, Southgate told ITV:-

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of about 60 persons standing trial for financial offences in Rivers State within the year.

The anti-graft agency also noted that from its records, internet fraud was top of the convictions and criminal cases it is investigating, urging the public to provide it with useful information to aid its operation.

The Commission made this disclosure during an Anti-Corruption walk in Port Harcourt organized by the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in conjunction with Civil Society Organisations and Sister security agencies and Relief International Africa to mark the 2024 African Union Anti-Corruption Day, tagged, ‘Effective WhistleBlower Protection Mechanism, A Critical Tool in the fight against Corruption’.

The Acting Zonal Director of EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, Adebayo Adeniyi, said oil theft is one of the crimes that makes corruption fighting in the state peculiar, noting that criminality is high in the state.

“I have been here for over three months. I came in from Abuja and I noticed that the kind of criminal offences that happen here are quite different because the terrain is different. Here you see bunkering and all of that, we don’t see those kinds of things in Abuja.

“The offence and criminal acts are different here. In that case you might have a bit of a high level of criminal activity here because of the activities here,” Adeniyi said.

According to the Acting Director, the commission within the year has successfully secured the conviction of 60 persons standing corruption charges, adding that Internet fraud ranks high in the state.

Adeniyi said:

“We have a lot of people under prosecution, but so far we have over 60 convictions, we have had this year. And we are going because we have a lot of cases in court. There are a lot of offences committed and a lot of investigations going on. The legal department and the operations departments are putting in their best.

“I am new in Rivers State, but I have not seen a lot of whistleblowers, but with this campaign today, it will bring awareness to the people. If you don’t communicate with people, they would not know you can communicate with them and receive this kind of information. We wish to inform them that they are safe when they give us information.

“Looking at it. You will see that internet fraud is always at a high level. We know our youths these days are every opportunity they go into internet fraud. So, the level of crime is high, that is why you see that we are trying to clamp down on them and see how we can reduce it.”

In a recent interview with media personality Timi Agbaje, the son of Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti, discussed the joy of raising his daughter despite having them from two mothers.

Seun revealed that he’s not close with his first daughter with whom he has no relationship due to a lack of connection with her mother.

Former Netherlands striker, Pierre van Hooijdonk has called on UEFA to ‘blacklist’ referee, Felix Zwayer following England’s recent Euro 2024 semi-final win over Netherlands.

England will face Spain in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday in Berlin after Ollie Watkins’ 90th minute winner sealed a 2-1 victory for Gareth Southgate’s side.

A VAR review resulted in referee Zwayer overturning his original decision and awarded England a penalty which Kane converted.

However, Van Hooijdonk wants Zwayer to be banned from major matches in the future.

Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed disappointment that Nigeria cannot feed herself in 2024, describing it as ‘a big shame’.

The governor shared his concerns while receiving national executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) led by its President, Chris Iziguzo on Thursday in Ibadan.

Makinde emphasised that there is a need for government at all levels to return to those economic practices that will get the country back on the path of growth and progress.

He added that the federal allocation was not enough, and charged all and sundry to find ways to produce rather than depending on foreign goods.

Makinde said;

“It is a big shame for this country that we cannot feed ourselves. We should go back to those things that will allow us to bring confidence back to our people and to ensure that this country is back on the path of growth and economic progress.

“I would say that it (Supreme Court judgment) has nothing to do with us here in Oyo State because since I came in, we’ve conducted local government election twice, and for one day after we held the first election, there’s been no caretaker anywhere.

“We planned and gave allowance for election process to go on smoothly. So, it’s not a big problem for us. The issue we have is that we’re not producing enough, we’re not productive”.
