Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has reacted to the message by Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum, to sect leaders and members.

Zulum recently urged them to turn away from their violent ways, embrace peace and return to normal life.

On Sunday evening, Ahmad Salkida, a journalist renowned for his closeness to the sect, disclosed that Shekau has turned down the advice.

Tweeting via his handle, @A_Salkida, the conflict and terrorism reporter wrote: “Shekau, in a recorded audio in Kanuri and Hausa declined the governor’s olive branch.

“In a calm tone, uncharacteristic of Shekau, he said the war was just starting. He vowed that his group was not ready to give up arms, chiding the governor for ‘misinterpreting’ a verse.

“According to Shekau: His members that want to leave, “know that is about Allah, it is not about any human being.”

“Informed analysts consider the exchange a good sign and have urged the governor not to relent in engaging the insurgents at all necessary levels.”

DAILY POST reports that the Boko Haram insurgency clocked 10 years in July 2019.

Over the last decade, the conflict has claimed the lives of some 27,000 civilians and devastated entire communities, villages and towns across the three most-affected states.

Nigeria’s humanitarian crisis remains among one of the most severe in the world with 7.1 million people in need of life-saving assistance and 1.8 million people uprooted from their homes – the vast majority of them women and children.

“The crisis that started ten years ago is still far from over,” Edward Kallon, United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, said recently.

“We are here today to remember those who have lost their lives in the conflict, and to remind of those still struggling to survive and rebuild their lives.

“Ten years on, it is not the time for us to spare any effort. In this very critical period, we must collectively redouble efforts, with support at all levels – locally, nationally and internationally.”

A 42-year old man, Bola Isiaka, has been arrested for penetrating a 10-year old girl’s private part by force and injuring her in the process.

The incident happened at Oremeta Street, Iju Ishaga area of Lagos, where they reside.

The Police alleged that the suspect, Isiaka, lured the victim into his apartment, removed her pant, forcefully penetrated her and warned her not to tell anyone about it.

However, the victim, having suffered injury in her private part, revealed what happened to her parents and the matter was subsequently reported to the Police at Isokoko Division.

Hence, the man, Isiaka, was arrested. After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and later charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court.

The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Supol Benson Emerhi, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because the victim was a minor.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat, then ordered Isiaka to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.

The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice while the matter was adjourned till 14th November, 2019 for report of the DPP to be ready.

The matter may be transferred to the High Court if the DPP finds Isiaka culpable and recommends that he should be tried for rape. The alleged offence attracts several years of imprisonment if the man is found guilty before the Court.

Lagos State Government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over the weekend announced the repositioning of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) formerly known as KAI to spearhead the state’s enforcement of the zero tolerance for indiscriminate waste disposal, street trading, erection of temporary structures on drainage setbacks, open defecation and assist to checkmate the activities of commercial motorcyclists who ply pedestrian walkways.

The state’s position was stated by the Commissioner for The Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tunji Bello during a familiarization visit to the head office of LAGESC at Safety Arena Complex, Oshodi alongside the Special Adviser on Drainage and Water Resources, Engineer Joe Igbokwe, where he added that the officers would now be posted to the major highways with security back up as a first step to enforcing the zero tolerance and state sanitation laws.

Bello said as part of the measures to reposition the LAGESC, the present pink Uniform would be changed to the old uniform to reflect the colour of the environment and send the right message about total enforcement of the state sanitation laws just as the necessary amendments would be made to the law to revert to the old name of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) which was the original name given to the outfit at inception.

He emphasized that the present administration would in addition to providing necessary security back ups for their operation, also equip the operatives with all the necessary kits and equipment to protect themselves from attacks by criminally minded individuals in the course of performing their legitimate duties on the highways as dictated by the law establishing the outfit.

He warned the officers against indulging in acts of bribery and corruption or making use of proxies to receive gratification from environmental sanitation offenders, stating that monitoring gangs have been formed that would be keeping an eye on the activities of the LAGESC officers as they go about their duties and that anyone found wanting would face appropriate disciplinary measures.

He said his visit to the LAGESC office was to reassure the officers of the commitment of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to their welfare and also boost their morale by recognizing hard work and to be ready to rise up for the task ahead, saying in the new dispensation, indolence would not be tolerated and that anyone of the employees who feels he cannot measure up to the new expectation has the option of opting out now

Wenger, who was approached on a number of occasions by the La Liga giants, said he turned down the Los Blancos’ offers to remain at North London club because Arsenal allowed him to manage in his own style.

The Frenchman stepped out of the spotlight in May 2018, when he left the Emirates, after 21 years in charge of Arsenal.

Since that time, Wenger has mostly been doing punditry work, but has been linked with several clubs.

“Regret is that maybe I sacrificed a little bit the winning potential against the loyalty potential,” Wenger told beIN Sport.

“Or the desire to build up the club and the influence I had on the club.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, says about 15 million Nigerians are searching for white collar jobs.

The Federal Government has expressed serious concerns over the rising unemployment rate in the country, saying that over 15 million Nigerians are looking for white collar jobs.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who expressed this concern in an interview with some journalists in Enugu on Monday, said government was worried by the increasing rate of unemployment in the country.

“Unemployment is growing into a very vicious disease condition that has given rise to a lot of anti-social behaviour. And government is seriously worried because if we don’t confront unemployment head on with many measures which we are fashioning now, then the whole country will be consumed with social unrest.

“The symptoms are there. Boko Haram is a symptom of unemployment in Nigeria. IPOB is a symptom of unemployment and desperation and people getting frustrated.

“Same goes for banditry in the North West. Same goes for kidnapping all over the country — North West, North East, North Central, South East, South South and South West.

“Avengers — the destruction of pipelines, OPC, all these are symptoms of very serious underlying disease condition called unemployment,” the minister said.

Continuing, he noted that government would fashion out ways and means to deal with unemployment, saying, however, that government was not doing enough to address the scourge.

“We are doing something, but I think what we are doing is not enough.

“Government has used diversification into agriculture to fight unemployment. Yes, it was successful where people agreed to turn themselves into farmers.

“We have also used ad hoc procedures like N-POWER programme. It is like a drop of water in the ocean.

“We have employed through that process 500,000 people, about half a million. But we have those searching for white collar jobs in the neighbourhood of about 15 million.

“So, we have to do something — to teach people new vocations, new skills, so that not everybody will be going for white collar jobs.

“Even if you have a university degree, you can be taught some skills so that you employ yourself or even get employed somehow. So, we are going to do that or it is on the table.

“We were lucky President Muhammadu Buhari came in. If not, we would have all dispersed into neighbouring countries. We would have had social unrest that would be internecine and by now, we would not have solved it.

“So, we are on with our thinking caps,” the minister said.

Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez faces “two or three months out” after injuring his ankle on international duty, Chile boss Reinaldo Rueda says.

Sanchez – on loan at the Italian club from Manchester United – was hurt in Chile’s 0-0 friendly draw with Colombia in Alicante on Saturday.

The Chilean Football Federation said the 30-year-old had dislocated tendons in his left ankle.

Sanchez has returned to Milan for further assessment.

Sanchez, who joined Antonio Conte’s Inter on a season-long loan deal in August, scored on his first start for the Serie A title hopefuls against Sampdoria on 28 September and he also impressed in their Champions League defeat at his former club Barcelona.

Some gunmen have stormed a private school in Delta state, disappearing with two siblings from the institution.

According to a report by Sun News, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Monday struck at Issele-Azagba near Asaba, Delta State and whisked away two children from a private school.

It was learnt that the armed men stormed the school premises at about 10 am in a black Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

They beat up the security men and tied them up, before heading straight to the classroom where the two children said to be of the same parents were and took them away.

According to a source:-

“The gunmen shot sporadically into the air while holding on to the children, apparently to scare away any resistance.

“The children were sandwiched at the back of the SUV by some of the gang members before they drove away menacingly from the school compound.”

The source wondered how the suspected abductors were able to beat the school security.

As at the time of filing this report, effort was still being made to reach the school management.

When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke could not confirm the report.

He said:-

“My men are in the field now working so I cannot confirm anything to you.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos office, Monday arraigned one Ola Lawal alongside his firm, DCAN Oil and Gas Limited over alleged N46 million money laundering and stealing.

Lawal was made to appear before Justice Chuka Austine Obiozor of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi in Lagos State.

His offence contravened Section 15(2)(b) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 as amended and punishable under Section 15(3) of the same Act.

The anti-graft spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.

One of the charges read, “That you Ola Lawal (a.k.a Lawal Roland) and DCAN Oil and Gas Limited on or about 24th June, 2019 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court fraudulently transferred the sum of N46, 000, 000.00 (Forty-Six Million Naira) from Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc Account Number 1002792889 domiciled in United Bank for Africa Plc to DCAN Oil and Gas Limited Account Number 0036695765 domiciled in Union Bank Plc which you ought to have known that such fund forms part of the proceeds of an unlawful act.”

But the defendant pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

It was on this ground that prosecution counsel, Muhammad Hussain asked the court for a trial date and order the remand of the defendant in Correctional Service custody.

But the defence counsel, Godwin Dick informed the court of a bail application already before the court and which has been served on the prosecution.

In his ruling, Justice Obiozor adjourned the case to October 15, for hearing of bail application and commencement of trial.

The Presiding Justice also ordered that the defendant be remanded in the EFCC custody.

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday, ordered a 23-year-old trader Mubarak Musa, who attempted to have sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old boy to be remanded in prison, pending legal advice.

Magistrate Hajara Dauda, who did not take the plea of Musa, ordered the police to return the case file to the Kaduna State Director of Public Prosecutions.

NAN reports that she adjourned the case until Oct. 31 for mention.

Musa, who resides in Ungwan Dankali, Zaria, Kaduna, is charged with attempted sodomy.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Sunday Baba, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 30.

Baba said that the suspect lured the boy into his room and attempted to have anal sex with him.

“The defendant was caught and arrested in the act while trying to remove the boy’s trousers,” Baba said.

He said the offence contravened sections 57 and 259 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.

The Comptroller-General, Nigerian Customs Service, retried Col. Hameed Ali has insisted that all import and export of goods from the nation’s land borders remain banned until there is an agreement with neighbouring countries on the kind of goods that should enter and exit Nigeria.

According to him, the measure is for the security agencies to be able to scan the goods entering the country. He maintained all goods must only enter through the legitimate air and sea ports where they can undergo thorough scanning and certified fit for consumption.

According to him:

 “We hope that by the time we get to the end of this exercise, we would have exactly between we and our neighbors agree on the type of goods that should enter and exit our country. For now, all goods, whether illicit or non-illicit, are banned from going and coming into Nigeria.

“Let me add that for the avoidance of doubt that we included all goods because all goods can equally come through our seaports. For that reason, we have deemed it necessary for now that importers of such goods should go through our controlled boarders where we have scanners to verify the kind of goods and how healthy to our people can be conducted.”

The Customs boss broke the news in Abuja during a joint press briefing on joint boarder patrol that is codenamed ‘EX-SWIFT RESPONSE.”

The Ex-SWIFT RESPONSE is coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) comprising the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies to address trans-boarder security issues.

He insisted that despite the rights for movement of persons the enabling ECOWAS protocols, there must be primacy of security over such rights. Ali, who was asked whether the Federal Government had not breached the rights of the citizenry to movement and international trade, said that “when it comes to security, all laws take back a seat.

“We want to our nation, we want make sure that our people are protected. You must be alive and well for you to begin to ask for your rights. Your rights come when you are well and alive.

“Go and the people in Maiduguri when Boko Haram was harassing their lives, the only question was survival, there is no question of right. This time Nigeria must survive first then before we begin to ask for our rights.”

Some concerned religious leaders have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to release pro-democracy campaigner and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, and other political detainees.

The religious leaders, mainly Christians, stormed the hometown of Sowore in Kiribo under the Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Sunday to show solidary with his people and demand his unconditional release.

Led by Bishop Irawo Joseph, President, and Founder of Zion Land of Canaan Ministry, the religious leaders said Sowore committed no offense to warrant his continued detention by the government.

Bishop Joseph noted that Sowore had always spoken against every government’s malfeasances with the aim that things would be done in the right and proper way.

The cleric, who later observed that Sowore was being kept deliberately in custody through trumped-up charges, asked Buhari’s administration to remember the story of Joseph in the Bible.

He said, “We know that he (Sowore) is just being kept in custody for speaking the truth to power but we are calling on the government to release him.

“The man has committed no offence that warrant all the charges against him. Sowore is not a criminal, he is only asking for an egalitarian society.

“We are therefore pleading with the Nigerian Government particularly President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene urgently and set Sowore free from detention.

“The Sowore that we know has always been the voice of the oppressed Nigerians, he has not committed any crime.

“He has a pure heart of gold and only wants the rapid growth and development of this nation. He must not be caged but be set free unconditionally.”

Niger government has closed down over 2,000 private schools in Suleja Local Government Area and other parts of the state for operating below government-approved standard.

Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, Permanent Secretary of Niger Ministry of Education, disclosed this when he received the state Chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Minna on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the members of the association were in the state Government House to mark the 2019 NAPPS Day celebration.

Aliyu disclosed that the schools were closed down for operating below standard in terms of infrastructure, offices, toilets, water and human resources.

“We have a monitoring team from the private school management board that monitors schools both in the state and local government areas to ensure that they operate within the approved standard.

“This is part of government efforts in ensuring we provide qualitative education in the state,” he said.

Aliyu gave the assurance that government would address the issue of multiple taxations bothering operators of private schools.

Earlier, Dr Sally Bolujoko, National President of NAPPS, said that the celebration would provide an opportunity for the association to examine relevant issues in the education sector and proffer solutions.

Bolujoko, who was represented by Mr Femi Alalade, the state Chairman of the Association, called on the state government to address the issue of multiple taxations on private schools by the state Board of Internal Revenue.

He disclosed that each private school had been paying 25 different taxes to the board and called on the government to harmonize tax payment.
