Ogu Excel Chidera professionally known as ‘Arred’ is a Nigerian recording artist and songwriter based in Lagos, Nigeria. Born on 17 th April 1993, fourth son of his parent with three older brothers and a younger sister.

He grew up in Owerri Nigeria. Where he had his early primary and secondary school education. He moved on to study Environmental Technology at the federal university of Technology Owerri. Arred forayed into music at a very young age in his church.

As a chorister, he explored the depth of his passion for music and learnt basics as well as nitty- gritty of making beautiful sounds. With his background, talent and originality, Arred is rightly placed to carve an envious niche for himself with a growing array of fans whom he prefer to call ‘Rred Nation’ in a music industry that is densely populated.

His passion for music professionally started in his secondary school days, incorporating elements ofAfrican music, Afro beats, R&B, jazz and soul. He regularly recorded songs and learnt how to play the guitar which he experimented with various fusion of afrobeats and sounds that reflects the indigenousness and dexterity of the African music style. As a recording artist, Arred is housed under a record label company- SK Records.

He is currently working on creating and delivering more of this aptitude to inspire and impress every musically inclined individual that appreciate good music. And to put a face to the name (Arred). he had released quite number of singles since 2013 till date.

With the aid of YouTube videos and online courses, he began to produce his own music, mixing and mastering. Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday warned that every insecurity situation in Nigeria must be taken seriously and be addressed at once without favoritism or cuddling.

He handed the warning at the 2nd session of the Synod held at the Cathedral Church of St.Paul’s Anglican Church, Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Obasanjo, who spoke on the topic, “Mobilizing Nigeria’s human& natural resources for national development and stability” also said both Boko Haram and herdsmen acts of violence were not treated as they should at the beginning.

According to him, “They have both incubated and developed beyond what Nigeria can handle alone. They are now combined and internationalized with ISIS in control.

“It is no longer an issue of lack of education and lack of employment for our youths in Nigeria which it began as, it is now West African fulanization, African Islamization and global organized crimes of human trafficking, money laundering, drug trafficking, gun trafficking, illegal mining, and regime change.

“Yet, we could have dealt with both earlier, and nip them in the bud, but Boko Haram boys were seen as rascals not requiring serious attention in administering holistic measures of stick and carrot.

“And when we woke up to the reality, it was turned to industry for all and sundry to supply materials and equipment that were already outdated and that were not fit for active military purpose.

“Soldiers were poorly trained for the unusual mission, poorly equipped, poorly motivated, poorly led and made to engage in propaganda rather than achieving results.

“Intelligence was poor and governments embarked on games of denials while paying ransoms which strengthened the insurgents and yet governments denied payments of ransoms. Today, the insecurity issue has gone beyond the wit and capacity of the Nigerian Government or even West African Governments”.

A man who narrowly escaped death after ramming into a fence while being chased by some SARS operatives, has been made to rebuild the fence.

The incident happened, yesterday, along the Awoyaya- Gbetu New Road axis of the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.

It was gathered that upon crashing into the fence, the injured driver was abandoned by his chasers, who reversed immediately, and fled.

However, the victim’s car was seized by the house owner and he was forced to rebuild the fence before the car was released to him.

The move by Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to establish a legal marijuana industry in the ‘sunshine’ state may have hit the rocks even before his very own eyes.

This is just as findings by journalists on Saturday showed that Akeredolu is not likely to find a willing ally in the Federal Government over his pursuit.

Despite the collaboration being received from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the governor has been disowned by the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Drug Abuse (PACEDA), an appendage of the Presidency.

PACEDA, in a statement made available to the media on Saturday, stated that no amount of money could be worth the lives of those that would be affected should marijuana be legalised in the country, as being canvassed by Akeredolu and, by extension, the NDLEA.

The warning came four days after Governor Akeredolu advised the Federal Government to encourage the cultivation of medicinal cannabis, also known as Indian hemp, in the country.

The statement was signed by the PACEDA Chair, Mohammed Buba Marwa.

Marwa, a retired military top officer, noted that the timing was so inauspicious, considering that the government had been doing everything to eradicate drug abuse in the country.

“It is disturbing that at this time when about 10 million Nigerians are abusing cannabis, anyone or group will be considering or advocating for Nigeria to legalise the growing of marijuana for economic or whatever purposes.

“Our committee has spent the last six months going round the country to obtain firsthand information about the dangers of drug abuse and how to combat it and we have been faced with the stark reality of how deep the menace has damaged and still damaging lives, especially the youths.

“No doubt, President Muhammadu Buhari was worried about this emergency situation, hence the decision to set up PACEDA to find a lasting solution to the threat. We should not, therefore, fold our arms or keep sealed lips while deliberate attempts are being made to sabotage the genuine efforts of the Federal Government in the interest of the nation.

“We should not forget so soon how many over-the-counter (OTC) drugs were made prescription medicines when millions of our young minds and adults were abusing such. How can we then turn around to call for legalising growing of cannabis when the Federal Government is still in the process of curtailing and eliminating the same?

“We dare say that no economic gain is worth the life of any Nigerian daily damaged on the street as a result of the effect of cannabis. There is, therefore, the need for all stakeholders at the federal, state and local government levels to rally round the Federal Government’s efforts at eliminating the menace of drug abuse rather than engaging in any counterproductive venture,” the statement read.

Despite the widespread appeal of Akeredolu’s position on social media, some critics have rebuked the governor.

Among those who criticized the governor include Senator Shehu Sani, the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly.

Sani, who took to Twitter via his handle @ShehuSani on Wednesday, May 15, wrote;

“My brother Akeredolu, Lagos partnered with Kebbi for rice, please partner with Niger for beans, Kaduna for ginger or partner with Benue for yam. Please leave this Indian Hemp matter for now, abeg.”

But Akeredolu is determined in his pursuit, despite several condemnation and backlash received in the last few days.

“The governor believes that the global legal marijuana industry is primed to be a jumbo in years ahead and Ondo State is trying to think ahead of time,” an aide of the governor, who did not want his name mentioned, told a reporter on Saturday.

1. Tell us about your latest concept ‘Radio at the Symphony’?

Radio at the Symphony has been a concept in my mind for a very long while now & it was a great pleasure to finally unveil the project at the Ghalboun International Festival to a sold out crowd.

That night the crowd witnessed for the first time their favourite hits like they have never heard them before! An epic transformation of radio waves to musical scores.

That moment when you feel the vibrations of the strings, breath of the woodwinds & the roar of the brass, … take it all in & feed your soul … for music is life.

I arranged and composed notes that any orchestra in the world would love to perform, and now we are ready to tour the world!

2. Is there a certain performance or moment in your musical career that you’ll never forget?

I’ll never forget the 28th of May 2016, a milestone date for myself. I headlined a sold out concert at the Olympia in Paris. The whole project was a result of years of hard work with some of the most talented artists in Europe.

I faced so many obstacles but we were able to push past them and make it happen. Once I got on stage, because of all my hard-work and sweat during the process of making this concert, I truly gave my all, I gave all I could give.. what great memories…

3. Tell us about your musical influences

My main influence in music comes from my passion for Flamenco Oriental Fusion. Fusion music is truly beautiful because it combines different worlds.

I also have huge love for Latin and afro music, with their groovy and complex beats & melodies. As a matter of fact, right now I am currently working on an afro song for my youngest daughter.

The best place to compose music from is the heart, and I will be sharing it soon with you on my social media.

You can see my love for African culture, I am wearing a Nigerian traditional hat in the picture … I rarely take it off. jokes*

4. How does Aleph fit into 8e Art Entertainment? What are the factors that helped form Aleph, were they influenced by 8e Art or vice versa?

I am the art director and through my experience, I now know what people want to hear. I now go through almost every detail of performances, not only the music aspects., lighting, stage design, costumes and other things.

My experiences with 8e Art have turned me from not just a performer, I now fully understand every details of live music performances.

5. What is the importance of the connections and people you meet through 8e Art Entertainment?

We started in 1999 and we became official in 2003, more than 6000 events… In every event you win something, you gain something… besides the experience and the audience’s appreciation & happiness. You win friends & fans…

You make contacts with people you can rely on, you meet big figures in many industries. Ambassadors, ministers, you name it… everyone needs entertainment at some point, you know.

There is an old Lebanese proverb, ill try to say it in English … If you follow the wire on every lamp post, it will lead you back to the power plant … everyone is connected in other words laughs*

6. What is the typical day/week in the life of Aleph?

Everyday is different, There is no routine, I am a musician, there is no TYPICAL day, No musician lives by routine.

Everyday we work on new projects, new events, brand new music… I am blessed to be an artist. I am not with the idea of working working working and than taking vacation.

I try to mix it up. Mix in my vacations with my work…All work and no play makes jack a dull boy … It makes a musician even duller laughs*

7. I’ve heard your debut album Aleph, very melodic and I felt as if I was listening to a movie soundtrack. Beautiful. Does every song have a meaning or story behind it?

Thank you so much for the compliment,yes, all songs have… Not only a story but a feeling behind it, The track 7:20 am, for example, is my take on the need to thrive every morning.

Vaya Maria is the love and care for my daughter, hope and regret is exactly what the name suggests… My translation of the relationship between hope & regret and how different and how similar they are at the same time.

My music is inspired by my daily life…I hope it makes the listeners feel something as well. God sends me inspiration and i translate it. smiles*

8. Finally, Aleph, what is your biggest blessing?

Other than my family, I’m blessed to have music, my true passion, as a career.

The Plateau State police have arrested a 42-year-old man, Gundumi Saya, after his married lover, Mrs. Hajara Markus, died while they were engaged in a hot romp.

Gundumi has now been remanded in Jos prison by Plateau State High Court for allegedly killing Hajara during sex.

The accused, who is also married with three wives and 14 children, had confessed to having a secret sexual relationship with the deceased before and after she got married to her husband, Markus Jagaba.

Late Hajara had lied to her husband that she was going for a wedding in Jakandagiwa, Bauchi State, and demanded for permission to be away for some days, but instead went for the extra-marital affair that ended her life.

Although Gundumi argued that he does not have a hand in the death, he was accused of intentionally dumping her body by the roadside and refusing to inform the police of her death, thereby contravening sections 189 and 102 of the Penal Code.

In his statement, Gundumi denied killing his lover, stating that he woke up to make love to her in the middle of the night only to find her dead.

An ex-governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has said Nigerians should be taking a day out, monthly, to cry.

He said this, today, at a symposium in Lagos, while expressing concerns about the relationship between Nigeria’s growing population and the lean revenue accruing to the nation.

According To Him:

“We don’t remember that we are poor here in Nigeria. If we have a deep thought, we ought to have a day of weeping every month.

If we don’t work harder to improve our fortunes, we would continue to be poor. In 2017, Brazil had a population of approximately 200 million people almost about what Nigeria had.

That year, Brazil had a revenue of about $600 billion and a budget of $700 billion. Nigeria in that same year made $13 billion and a budget of $23 billion. Are the two countries equal?

Today, OPEC allowed Nigeria to extract and sell 2million barrel of crude oil per day but we don’t get that quantity. Even if we get 2million barrel per day and if the price rises to $100 per barrel, it means our income will be $200 million.

If you divide this by 200 million people, it amounts to $1 per every Nigerian. We have to check our population by practicing birth control. If we don’t address this, we would have huge problems to deal with. We would also need every able-bodied person to work.”
