A man has died from injuries he sustained after monkeys threw bricks at him from a tree.

A 72-year-old man Dharampal Singh, has died in India after a group of monkeys threw bricks at him from a tree.

Singh had been collecting pieces of dry wood before the incident in Tikri, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday.

Police said monkeys rained bricks on the man from a treetop after collecting them from a nearby dilapidated building, the Times of India reported.

The elderly man later died in hospital from sustained head and chest injuries.

Villagers have repeatedly complained about aggressive monkeys in the area, but the animals are a protected species.

Mr Singh’s family are said to have put in a formal complaint about the incident to police.

The victim’s brother reportedly told the newspaper:-

“Monkeys threw more than 20 bricks at Dharampal on Thursday.”

He said they will now meet senior officials and request them to initiate action in this regard.

Policmen in Lagos state have apprehended a notorious armed robber who has been terrorizing residents of Lagos state.

Policemen in Lagos state have apprehended a deadly car vandal that had been terrorizing car owners in Lagos state.

The suspect identified Fatai Adesina, was busted after he went to Ago area and was arrested promptly by the police.

This was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, at the State Police Command.

The police boss said that on 12th October, 2018 at about 3am in the morning, the police received a distress call that robbers were operating at Community Road, Ago Palace Way and the police team led by the DPO moved in.

The robbers who came in two Toyota Camry cars had gained entrance to a Tecno phone shop through the main door by cutting all the padlocks. He were said to have disconnected the alarm and went straight to the strong room.

But as they were trying to break the strong room’s door, the police arrived, opened fire and they escaped.

However, the police managed to arrest Adesina and detained him at the police station but he was later transferred to FSARS for further investigations.

The vehicles were recovered as exhibit and parked at the police station.

CP Edgal said that the suspect will be charged to court while efforts were being made to arrest the suspects that escaped who are now at large.

Following a distress call, the Ogun State Police Command arrested a 23-year old man who ran a beer parlour for killing a customer over N200 beer.

Tragedy struck, weekend, at a pub located on 4, Ijagun Road, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, when a customer was stabbed to death in his attempt to compel another customer to pay N200 for the beer he drank.

The deceased identified simply as Christian, was said to be a regular customer at the beer parlour owned by one Temitope Adedayo.

Barely had he finished drinking during one of his visits at about 3pm on Saturday, than he heard Temi, owner of the beer parlour, as she is fondly called, arguing with a customer later identified as Taiwo Olatokunbo, to pay for a bottle of MORE beer he drank.

An eye witness, who simply gave his name as Segun, said: “During the argument, Temi said she would not allow Taiwo to leave without paying. Taiwo on his part, threatened to beat Temi up if she stood in his way.

“It was at this point that the man (late Christian) intervened. He told Taiwo to beg if he knew he didn’t have money with him instead of being rude.

“Taiwo, called Christian a woman wrapper and asked who invited him into the conversation. This resulted in a quarrel that degenerated into a fight. In the process, Taiwo, broke a bottle and stabbed Christian in his right elbow joint.

“The fight was still on until Christian who became weak started shouting for help, holding on to his wounded elbow”.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, who confirmed the incident, said 23-year-old Taiwo Olatokunbo, was subsequently arrested.

According to Oyeyemi, “The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police at Igbeba Division from one Temitope Adedayo, who runs a beer parlour.

“Upon the report, the acting DPO of Igbeba Division SP Onah Lawrence, led his Anti crime men to the scene where the said Taiwo Olatokunbo, was promptly arrested. The victim was quickly rushed to state hospital Ijebu Ode, for medical attention but gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department , SCIID for proper investigation and prosecution of the suspect.

Following credible intelligence gathering, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a container full with imported soup (stew) and some other edible items worth N27, 960,000 from China.

The container, sighted at one of the Nigerian ports, was intercepted by the CGC Strike Force team, as a result of information provided by the Customs Intelligent Unit (CIU) of the Service.

Addressing newsmen in Lagos, Deputy Comptroller and National Coordinator, Comptroller General Strike Force, Abdullahi Kirawa said the system has degenerated to the level that Nigerians are now importing stew into the country. .

He bemoaned that the pots of stew and other edible items imported, which could not be identified as a result of Chinese Language written on their packs could pose serious dangers to human health.

He added:

“Nigerians are hard-working people known for our marvelous delicacies. How can someone import stew into the country? The stew was carefully conceived inside the container.

I will advise that Nigerians should ignore egocentric and embrace ethnocentrism.

Our quest for foreign goods and items must be discouraged and we must work hard to embrace and patronize home made goods, including our delicious stew that are prepared from our homes and not engage in this type of business.

This type of soup posed dangers to public health, to economy and of course, the employment of our teeming youths.

If stew would be imported, then what else are we going to do? So this is something we need to reflect on.”

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested the duo of Tairu Kadiri Amedu aged 35 and Aleru Suleiman aged 38, over their alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy, kidnapping and culpable homicide.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the Command, ASP William Aya on Tuesday, the two suspect kidnapped one Sanni David Aliu, who later died in their custody.

Aya stated that 11 assorted sim cards, eight (8) assorted sim card certificates, twenty-nine (29) pieces of fake US dollars, twenty three (23) pieces of fake Euro, seven (7) assorted mobile phones and seven (7) ATM cards were some of the exhibits recovered from the above suspects.

The statement reads “Consequent on the activities of criminal elements such as Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Cultism within Kogi State, the Commissioner of Police , CP Ali A. Janga PSC deployed some strategies and directed the Federal Special Anti robbery Squad (FSARS) in the State to hunt for the criminal elements terrorizing the State and ensure they are arrested.

“In total compliance with the directives, the FSARS in synergy with the operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) in the State acting on the information that one Sanni David Aliu ‘m’ of Ankpa was kidnapped by unknown hoodlums.

“The combined team of Police and DSS operatives swung into action through intelligence led operations with the skills applied storms the kidnappers hideout and arrested the above suspects, while the victim was discovered dead and the body recovered from their dens.

“The exhibits above were equally recovered from the suspects. Suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.”

The long arm of law has finally caught up with some notorious pickpockets operating around Oshodi in Lagos.

Two suspected hoodlums, Tajudeen Adedayo, 27, and Courage Agu, 24, were arrested on Monday in separate incidences of phone theft by RRS officers stationed in Oshodi.

A stolen phone and a purse were found with Adedayo, while he managed to pass on another phone to his colleague before he was arrested via a chase.

Courage had equally passed on his picks before he was arrested by two of his victims at Oshodi Under bridge. He was handed over to RRS officers.

They both confessed to being phone thieves and pickpockets in Oshodi.

Adebayo in his confession disclosed that early morning and evenings of Mondays and Fridays are their peak periods every week.

Apart from those who sleep in Oshodi, many others come from Sango, Agege, Abule Egba e.t.c to feast on passersby in Oshodi.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old Abiodun Ojo for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl.

It was learnt that Abiodun was arrested at Magbara, a village near Idiroko, a border community in Ipokia Local Government Council Area, in Ogun State.

Confirming the incident, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was a co-tenant with the victim’s parents.

He was said to have lured the girl into a bush path under the pretence of wanting to send her on an errand and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

“It was the shouting and crying of the girl that attracted the attention of local vigilante operatives who rescued the girl and placed a distress call to Police at Idiroko division.

“The DPO, CSP Aloko Amodu, quickly led his men to the scene and promptly arrested the suspect who had been severely beaten by angry mob”, Oyeyemi stated in a press statement made available to newsmen while parading suspect.

The PPRO further said that both the suspect and the victim were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

According to Abimbola, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution of the suspect.

The comment came after Ngaire Woods, the founding dean of Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University, asked the Nigerian Vice President to tell the summit who calls him when he wants to sack someone corrupt.

“I would like to refer to the Nigerian elite, and it’s probably not fair to be that broad, but practically, every segment, because people who have access to you, they could be political leaders,

religious leaders, business leaders, whoever has access to you. We have a system where people just feel like, ‘why don’t you just give this guy a break?’ Which again is part of the problem. You don’t get one call, you get several calls” he said.

The Vice President who sacked Lawal Daura, former director general of the Department of State Services (DSS), suspended Ayo Oke, former director general of National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Babachir Lawal, former secretary to the government of the Federation (SGF), added that one of the most frustrating parts of the fight against corruption for him is the slow pace of prosecution.

According to Yemi Osinbajo, reforms are important, and the federal government has embarked on a number of them, including the criminal justice reform, but the federal government cannot reform state judiciaries.

He concluded his speech by stating that the conviction of two former executive governors secured by the federal government has shown that the hand of justice may be slow, but it would eventually catch up.

Two identical twins who were born girls have now become brothers. Transgender siblings Jack and Jace Grafe, 23, used to cry themselves to sleep and prayed to wake up as boys when they were children.

They started life as Jaclyn and Jennifer in June 1995, and grew up in a conservative Christian home. Jack and Jace grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, before moving to Monroe, Georgia.

They came out at the age of 18 and are now transitioning as a duo in a rare case. The twins, who have the same DNA, have grown facial hair since they began taking testosterone in April 2017 and underwent chest surgery in August.

Now the criminal justice graduates, who both work in law enforcement, have shared their extraordinary story in a bid to inspire others.

Jack, a deputy sheriff’s officer, said: “As a kid I would cry and pray to God that I would wake up in a male body, not even understanding that being transgender was a thing.

“Now, I am the happiest with myself that I have been in my entire life. That uncomfortable feeling we had before has completely gone. “When we came out, it was to our whole family – mum, dad and our older sister.

“Our parents had never seen anything like it. They have never experienced gay or transgender people and my dad is a pastor. We live in Georgia.

“At work I have had my fair share of people calling me a ‘s***’ – she, he, it. Usually they just don’t understand.

“People still refer to us as female. Whenever I hear ‘she’ or ‘her’ it is like a kick in the stomach. “It hurts but I get it. At a young age, I was skeptical of it myself.

For some people, it is a hard pill to swallow. “There are times when I wish I was just born – and I don’t mean this in a negative way -but ‘normal’, and that I was biologically male.

Jace, who is also a deputy officer and just started in the police academy, added: “Honestly, the twin thing has helped.

“If I was to go back to when I was 15 or 16 I would never think in a million years that I would have got to this point.”It was a fantasy and I always wished it was going to happy but I wasn’t brave enough. I didn’t have the guts.

“Being a twin means I don’t feel alone. Somebody else is experiencing the exact same things as I am going through and that made me stronger.”

Despite not coming out until adulthood and keeping their gender identity secret from each other, both twins felt the same way – that they were male, not female.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied receiving any list of candidates for Zamfara State from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as claimed by the party.

What is the way out for APC now with the case in court?

The electoral body had disqualified APC from fielding candidates for the 2019 general elections in Zamfara State on the grounds that the party did not conduct primary elections in the state within the time it stipulated in its guidelines.

But the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Lanre Isa-Onilu, had told ThisDay after the deadline for submission of candidates’ for the presidential and National Assembly elections on October 18, 2018, that the party submitted candidates for all positions in all states of the federation, including Zamfara.

“We submitted applications for all the positions in all the states, including Zamfara,” Isa-Onilu had said.

However, INEC National Commissioner on Voter Education and Information, Mr. Festus Okoye, told ThisDay on phone yesterday that the commission did not receive the list of candidates from Zamfara State from the ruling party.

He said based on the provisions of Section 31 and 87 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), “the commission does not expect that your party will submit names of any candidates from Zamfara State.”

Okoye added:-

“For clarity, our position is that the APC will not be fielding candidates for the governorship, National Assembly and state assembly elections in Zamfara State for the 2019 for the general elections.

“There are two matters relating to the party primary election conducted in Zamfara State pending before the State High court and Federal High Court in Zamfara. Those two matters are yet to be decided.

“So APC did not submit any list from Zamfara and INEC did not release any list of candidates from Zamfara.”

This is heartbreaking. A woman, her two children aged two and three, were among six people who lost their lives yesterday in an auto accident in Akwa Ibom State.

Two passenger vehicles, a bus and a taxi, collided headlong at Ikot Ese on the Afahaobong-Iwukem Road in Etim Ekpo area, leaving many in shock…

According to medics, who attended to the injured at the nearby Divine Love Hospital, at Iwukem, where they were taken, six victims were already dead on arrival.

“We battled frantically to save some souls, but this place is too small to address such emergencies because we lack basic facilities and blood because some had lost so much blood at the time they were taken here.

“Since we don’t have mortuary facility here, the dead were later moved to the nearby General Hospital at Azumini, Abia State.

“Please, let us be more conscious and watchful as we drive on the road because what I have seen today is so shocking especially the death of the young mother with her two babies age two and three years,” a female nurse, who would not want her name in print, told our correspondent.

She appealed to the government to equip and provide essential facilities, personnel and other essential materials “for us to be able to take care of emergencies”.

When contacted by New Telegraph, the spokesman for state the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Justice Agwu, confirmed the incident, but regretted that people, including drivers and other road users, were not imbibing safety culture on the road.

Agwu decried what he called unnecessary carnage on Akwa Ibom roads.

The speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, says there is no plan to impeach Governor Akinwunmi Ambode “for now”.

Obasa, who stated this during the Monday plenary of the Assembly, said those that said he threatened to initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor if he failed to open the state’s treasury, were imagining things.

He said:-

“This allegation is frivolous and misleading. We need to clear the air on this fabrication that has been making the rounds both online and other media outlets that the Assembly is planning to impeach the governor.

“For now, the House is not planning to impeach Governor Ambode and if this will happen, it has to be done the right way.

“We don’t need wailers to tell us how to go about our legislative duties. We are not planning to impeach Governor Ambode and even if the house is planning to do that, it won’t be done in secrecy as impeachment is constitutional and democratic.”

Obasa, however, said there was nothing of such for now as the House was working hand-in-hand with the governor to move the state forward.

Following the over 100% hike in school fees, students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology have said they won’t pay the new tuition.

The University management in an email sent to the students on Monday, October 15, 2018, said the hike will take effect from the 2018/19 session.

Having announced the new tuition, returning students who are indigenes of Oyo and Osun state will be paying N200,000 while non-indigenes are to pay N250,000.

However, the students have protested against the hike saying they can’t pay the fees. Reacting to the fee hike, the institution’s Students Union President, Abiodun Oluwaseun while speaking with Sahara Reporters describe the school management and state government’s decision as wicked and insensitive.

“Our students find it very difficult to pay the N65,000; they pasted debtors’ list of over 4,000 students. Now, they have come up with this ridiculous amount. The stand of our union remains that we will not accept a kobo added to the tuition fee.
